Intoxicated driver gets seven years imprisonment

A court here has awarded seven years imprisonment to a driver, who, under the influence of alcohol, fatally knocked down a 54-year-old man and injured others with his car.

According to prosecution, A. Sivamurugan, 31, of Idaichchivilai under Thattarmadam police station limits, under the influence of alcohol, drove the car and fatally knocked down S. Kangeyan, 54, of Udangudi on June 11, 2018. Two others – S. Thangadurai, 45, of Padukkapathu and a teen were also injured in the accident.

Kulasekaranpattinam police arrested Sivamurugan.

Second Additional Sessions Magistrate Preetha awarded 7 years imprisonment to Sivamurugan and imposed a fine of ₹10,500 on him on Tuesday.
