Collector R. Sukumar honoured the State-level award-winning women self-help groups from the district during the weekly grievances redressal meet held at the Collectorate on Monday.
As two women SHGs from Radhapuram and Valliyoor have bagged State Government’s ‘Manimekalai Award’ for their outstanding performance, Dr. Sukumar honoured the SHGs on Monday.
When Arumugam, a differently abled youth from Vellankuzhi in the district, submitted a petition seeking hand-pedalled tricycle, it was handed over immediately to him.
Seeking the Collector’s help to trace her mother who went missing in Malaysia 8 years ago, P. Gnana Soundarya of Puthu Graamam in Pettai here submitted a petition. The petitioner said her neighbour Viswanatha Selvi and her son Selvaraj sent her mother Sudali to Malaysia on September 25, 2017 to work as housemaid in a house after Sudali’s family was struggling to repay the loans. After two months, ₹ 30,000 was credited in the account of Sudali’s husband Pakkiri on December 11, 2017 by the Malaysian property owner.
“On the next day, Viswanatha Selvi came to our house and informed us that my mother had left the workplace without informing the property owner and we could not contact my mother all these years. Even though I had submitted several petitions with the Collector and the Commissioner of Police on several occasions, no step has been taken to locate my mother. Though Mr. Selvaraj told us that my mother had been sent to Malaysia on ‘work visa’ with the valid period of one year, we’ve found now that she had been sent there on tourist visa valid for just two months. Hence, the Collector should take steps for rescuing my mother,” Ms. Gnana Soundarya said.
