Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu and Minister for Local Administration K.N. Nehru inspected on Tuesday the preparations being made in this coastal town ahead of the consecration of Lord Subramaniya Swami Temple to be conducted on July 7.
As the consecration of the shrine is likely to attract a few lakh devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu, especially the huge population migrated from Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts to various parts of the country, the district administration is making arrangements in a big way in the areas under the Tiruchendur municipality and the surroundings.
After inspecting the ongoing arrangements being made in and around Tiruchendur and the vehicle parking areas being created near Veerapandianpattinam, a review meeting was held, in which the officials from various government departments including Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, Revenue, Local Administration, Police, Public Health, Transport, Highways, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corproation etc. explained in detail about the preparations to be made.
Mr. Nehru said the officials should be ready with clear plans to make the event hassle-free, as it is expected to attract more than 10 lakh devotees. Sanitary workers in sufficient numbers should be deployed to ensure the round-the-clock garbage collection, and health posts at vantage points with an adequate number of doctors and nurses be created. Tiruchendur Government Hospital should be ready with sufficient stocks of medicines, doctors and nurses till the end of the event.
Sprawling parking spaces on the periphery of the town should be identified to avoid traffic jam within Tiruchendur. A clear plan should be in place
Drinking water booths should be created at all possible areas, and the ongoing road repair and re-laying works be completed on an early note, Mr. Nehru said.
As the ‘yagasala puja’ for the consecration is to start on July 1, Tiruchendur is likely to attract devotees from this event that marks the start of the celebrations.
