Four from Kumarapalayam arrested for theft of motorbikes in Madurai

Madurai city police have arrested four persons from Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district in connection with motorbike theft and seized 13 stolen bikes from them.

A statement said that a team of police from K. Pudur station intercepted a stranger who tried to flee from the police involved in a vehicle check at the ITI bus stop on Sunday. The police nabbed him after a chase.

The stranger was identified as L. Dinesh Kumar, 33, of Kumarapalayam. Interrogation revealed that he was involved in theft of 13 motorbikes from areas under K. Pudur and Tallakulam police station limits.

Further enquiry revealed that he had sold the stolen bikes to M. Balaji, 32, who is the Kumarapalayam Town Hindu Munnani president, a BJP functionary from Kumarapalayam S. Vivek, 40, of Gandhi Nagar, and a Hindu Munnani functionary M. Gautham, 23, of Vattamalai in Kumarapalayam.

The trio had bought the bikes for cheap rate with the knowledge that they were all stolen bikes. They had made profit by selling them at higher prices to the people in the villages around.

All the four were arrested and sent to judicial custody.
