A man allegedly murdered his wife and two daughters in the early hours of Saturday and surrendered to the police.

Police said that Sundaravelu, 45, lived with his wife Poongodi, 38, and two daughters – Jayadurga, 10, and Jayalakshmi, 7, in Thiruvirundalpuram, near Arupukkotai in Virudhunagar district.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sundaravelu, a farm labourer, had differences with his wife. They had frequent quarrels on domestic issues. On Friday night too, they had an argument. However, all the four had gone to bed.

In the early hours, according to Sundaravelu’s confession, he attacked his wife and the two children, who were fast asleep, with a sickle. All three of them died on the spot and were later found in a pool of blood. He later walked to the Arupukottai Taluk police station with the weapon and confessed to the crime, police said.

Virudhunagar SP Kannan inspected the spot. Further investigation was on.
