Elderly woman murdered for jewellery in Namakkal

An 80-year-old woman was beaten to death for her jewellery, and the accused was arrested within two hours of the cirme on Sunday evening.

Kannammal, a resident of Patharai near Soudhapuram, was staying alone in her house. On Sunday around 3.30 p.m., she was found dead in her house and her earring and ring were missing. On information, Veppadai police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Pallipalayam Government Hospital for postmortem.

The police verified CCTV footage in the locality and inquiries revealed that D. Sankar (29), a resident of Athanur near Rasipuram who was staying in another house owned by the deceased for rent for the past six months and working in a power loom unit, allegedly attacked and killed the deceased for her six grams of gold earrings and a ring.

The police nabbed the accused within two hours and seized the earring and ring from him. The police said that after investigation he will be remanded in prison.
