A 28-year-old man, M. Karthikraja of Periyakulam has been sentenced to 10 years’ rigourous imprisonment on charges of murder a man by pushing him under the wheel of a moving bus at Periyakulam bus stand in May this year.
When the case came up for hearing, Principal District Judge, Swarnam J. Natarajan, also imposed a fine of ₹2,000 on him.
According to prosecution, Karthik Raja was approached by the deceased, S. Manoj, 51, of Idukki, who sought alms.
However, the accused did not offer him any money.
When Manoj started to use shout, Karthik Raja thought that the man was only scolding him and beat him up and pushed him down.
A bus that was passing through the spot crushed Manoj to death.
