Collector Anand Mohan on Monday inaugurated the distribution of 1 gram free gold ring to babies born in government hospitals and primary health centres in the district.
A total of 1,936 infants, who were born between June 22 and September 24 at PHCs, government hospitals and Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, will receive the gift within the next two weeks. Babies born after September 24 will be given the gift when they are discharged from hospital along with their mothers.
“Mothers, who delivered their babies on June 22, 2026, and after this date, should approach village health nurses or medical officers of PHCs with any one of the documents proving their identity such as Aadhaar card, electors photo identity card, ration card, nativity certificate and labour welfare board identity card to get the gift,” the Collector said.
The mothers may contact the following medical officers: Dr. Palanikumar, Paappaakudi (96002 31107), Dr. Poornima Devi, Nanguneri (95510 89988), Dr. Ashraf Ali, Cheranmahadevi (99526 63995), Justin Ponnaiah, Palayamkottai (91766 83045), Dr. Thalapathi, Kalakkad (77088 03411), Dr. Adlin, Radhapuram (99407 24912), Dr. Gurunathan, Maanur (94430 01181), Dr. Kolappan, Valliyoor (98654 08994), Dr. Jebisha, Ambasamudram (94867 82948) and Dr. Nitin Steffi Jose, Tirunelveli Corporation (63740 75012).
After receiving invitations from the village health nurses, they may reach the medical officers concerned at the prescribed time to receive the free gold ring between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mr. Anand Mohan said.
In Tenkasi district, Minister for Environment and Climate Change V.K. Rajeev inaugurated the distribution of the gold gift to newborn babies in the presence of Collector Ranjeet Singh at Tenkasi Government Hospital.
A total of 1,520 newborn babies will receive the gold ring in the district over the next two weeks through the medical officers concerned. In the first batch, the district has received 1,479 rings to be presented to newborns.
Each distribution centre will give 25 rings in the forenoon and a similar number of rings in the afternoon as per the invitation to be sent by the village health nurses to the mothers.
