3 persons held for peddling ganja in Bengaluru

Bengaluru police arrested two persons for allegedly selling ganja near Hebbal, while another accused was taken into custody in a separate operation by Kengeri police, officials said on December 16.

According to the police, personnel from the Hebbal police station acted on a tip-off on December 13 and conducted a raid near V. Naganahalli, close to a railway track. During the operation, two individuals were allegedly caught selling ganja to customers on a two-wheeler. The police detained the duo and seized the drugs.

According to the police, the accused were allegedly involved in the illegal sale of banned narcotic substances to earn quick money. Preliminary inquiries revealed that they procured ganja at a low cost from unidentified persons and sold it at higher prices to their customers. The police seized 2.93 kg of ganja along with the two-wheeler used for the alleged sale. The total value of the seized items has been estimated at ₹2.09 lakh.

The two accused have been booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and have been remanded to judicial custody. “Further investigation is under way to trace the source of the contraband and identify others involved in the network,” a police official said.

In a separate incident, Kengeri police arrested one person on December 11 for allegedly selling ganja near the helipad close to Kengeri Satellite Club. Acting on tip-off, the police conducted a raid and seized 560 grams of ganja, valued at around ₹60,000.

A police official said, “The accused was allegedly supplying ganja to construction workers and local youth. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody. Further inquiry is ongoing.”
