‘Real Kashmir Football Club’ gets nominated for International Emmys; Vir Das creates history with third nomination

The nominations for the International Emmy Awards 2026 were announced on Wednesday (September 24, 2026). India has earned two nominations with Sony LIV’s Real Kashmir Football Club getting nominated in the Drama Series category while Vir Das’ stand-up special, Fool Volume, got the nod in Comedy category.

For Vir Das, it is the third nomination at the International Emmys, making him the only Indian to be nominated thrice for the awards. His first nomination was in 2021 for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India, and his second nomination was in 2023 for his special Vir Das: Landing, for which he won an Emmy.

Speaking about getting nominated, Vir said in a statement, “I am humbled all over again to be nominated for an International Emmy. Fool Volume is about silence — what it means to have a voice, and what happens when you actually use it. I’m deeply grateful to the jury, audiences, my team, and Netflix for giving me the space to make work I believe in. And to everyone who has laughed along the way — clearly, my delusion is contagious.”

Real Kashmir Football Club, starring Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, told the real story of a journalist and a businessman, who team up to start a first-of-its-kind football club in Kashmir to give young people a sense of purpose. Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar and Mahesh Mathai, the show premiered on the streamer in December 2025.

It is nominated alongside three other shows in the category, including, A Thousand Blows, Careme and Menem.
