Expressing anguish over rising incidents of caste-based violence, discrimination, and untouchability across various districts of Karnataka, including Yadgir, Madiga leaders have strongly condemned the incidents and criticised the State government for failing to curb such atrocities.
Addressing a press conference, Hanumanth Itagi, former CMC member and Madiga leader, said that Dalits were subjected to atrocities and killings in Lingsagur and Gursunagi in the Raichur and Yadgir districts.
”The State government and Home Department should ensure the safety of Dalits from such repeated attacks. The assailants should be punished according to the law,” Mr. Itagi said, suggesting that monitoring mechanisms at the district level, through the Home Department, be strengthened to guarantee fundamental rights and equality.
In response, the Home Minister reportedly directed officials to effectively manage documentation, streamline investigations, and track the progress of all registered atrocity cases, he said.
Community leaders Basavaraja Metri Naikal, Shivaraja Dasanakeri, Anil Kumar Karate, and Chandrashekhar Kadesoor were present.
