Opposition leader and DMK convenor for Karaikal region A. M. H. Nazeem has requested the Chief Secretary to convene a meeting of all legislators to ensure relief works were carried out in a coordinated manner during northeast monsoon in Puducherry.
Mr. Nazeem in a statement said the party appreciated the Chief Secretary for convening a meeting of officers recently to discuss the preparations for northeast monsoon. However, it would be better if the Chief Secretary holds another meeting by including legislators after the completion of the byelection, he said.
The Chief Secretary should initiate forming a WhatsApp group with legislators and officials as members for better coordination to meet any eventuality during monsoon.
The contact numbers of officers entrusted with relief works in constituencies could be shared with the legislators. A separate helpline should be set up for the general public to air their grievances during northeast monsoon, the DMK leader said.
The Opposition leader also urged the government to allocate more funds to Municipalities and Commune Panchayats to deal with emergency situations during monsoon period. The amount of money currently allocated to the local bodies was not sufficient, he added.
