Theatre workshop
A two-day theatre workshop titled “Discovery of Self in the Other and the Other in Self”, organised by the PG and Research, Department of English, Bishop Heber College, Professor David Wesley of Madras Christian College, explored how theatrical practice can sharpen personal awareness, professional communication, and leadership skills. Theatre was presented as a structure supported by four pillars: voice, mind, body and space on the opening day. One-minute stories, re-narrations, and partner-switching exercises tested participants’ powers of observation and adaptability.
The second day shifted attention to the physical dimension. Participants worked with tableaux and snapshot scenes, learning to communicate without adding or omitting elements of a script. The afternoon practicum saw participants divided into six teams, each presenting an original play.
Elocution competition
Over 50 students from 11 colleges showcased their oratory skills in the 60th A.D. Shroff Memorial Inter-Collegiate Elocution Competition organised by PG & Research Department of Commerce, Cauvery College for Women (CCW) and Forum of Free Enterprise – Mumbai and Tiruchi District Chamber of Commerce recently. The topics for the elocution were “Maintaining the reform momentum: What next?”, “Using AI to enhance human productivity” and “Changing geopolitics and its impact on India”. CCW students R. Lathisha Parveen and P. Priya won the first and second prize respectively while M. Yasmin Begum of SRM College won the third prize.
Festival winners
Students from the School of Agricultural Sciences, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Tiruchi, won the overall championship of BIO-DE-FIESTA 5.0, a state-level inter-collegiate tech-cultural festival organised by Department of Biotechnology, School of Biological Sciences, St. Joseph’s College recently. The second prize was secured by the Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Umayal Ramanathan College for Women, Karaikudi, while the third prize was awarded to the Department of Biotechnology, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Perambalur.
A total of 13 events were organised with the special event titled “Powering the Protectors – Nutrition Meets Brave Hearts” that connected student creativity with the nutritional needs of soldiers serving under extremely cold and challenging high-altitude conditions. Three books by college rector Dr. Pavulraj Michael SJ were released during the programme.
Geology in oil industry
R. Gunasekara Pandian, Gas Detection Engineer (Oil and Gas), Rutledge Private Limited, Singapore and Hong Kong, highlighted the role and career opportunities of geologists in petroleum exploration in a session conducted by the Geology Association of the Department of Geology, National College, Tiruchi recently. The programme also highlighted the relevance of geology to affordable and clean energy, industry and innovation, climate action, life below water, and life on land, reflecting its broader contribution to sustainable development.
MoU signed
Shrimati Indira Gandhi College (SIGC) and Vaken Technology, Japan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster global opportunities in education, research, technology, industry exposure, and cross-cultural learning for students and faculty recently. SIGC chief executive officer K. Chandrasekharan and Natarajan Subramania, co-founder, Vaken Technology, signed and exchanged the MoU.
Paper bag making

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College conducted a paper bag making workshop for volunteers aimed at promoting eco-friendly packaging options and reducing the usage of plastic bags recently. The programme was inaugurated by Selvaraj, Assistant Block Development Officer. Student volunteers who participated in the workshop gave away significant numbers of paper bags to the storekeepers near the college campus.

Biotechnology conference
Recent developments in phytochemistry, natural bioactive compounds, therapeutic applications, and their relevance to modern medicine were the focus of a two-day national conference conducted by Biodia Club of PG and Research Department of Biochemistry, Sengamala Thayaar Educational Trust Women’s College, Sundarakkottai, Mannargudi, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Institutions Innovation Cell recently. Keynote speaker Agilan Balupillai, assistant professor, Department of Biotechnology, School of Life Sciences, Pondicherry University, highlighted the potential of natural flavonoids in cancer research, particularly in targeting microtubule dynamics and developing innovative therapeutic strategies. M. Rajadurai, associate professor, Department of Food Technology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru, spoke on the transition of phytochemicals from natural sources towards pharmaceutical applications and the challenges and opportunities in natural-product-based drug development. The conference included dedicated oral and poster presentation sessions.
Research on nanoparticles
The Postgraduate and Research Departments of Physics and Chemistry, the Research and Development Centre, Thanthai Hans Roever College, and the Tiruchi Raman Research Foundation jointly organised a national workshop on the topic ‘Eco-Friendly Synthesis of Nanoparticles: From Laboratory Research to Biomedical Applications’ recently. Lectures by resource persons covered recent developments in nanotechnology, eco-friendly nanoparticle synthesis, laboratory research and biomedical applications. One of the major highlights of the programme was the Raman Research Foundation Awards Ceremony. The Best Science Promoter Award was presented to S. Sakthivel, Government Higher Secondary School, Kaatrampakkam, Sriperumbudur, and the Best Research Award was presented to R. Mohan, assistant professor, Department of Physics, Sri Sevugan Annamalai College, Devakottai. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to P. Seenivasa Kumar, Principal, Government Thirumagal Mills College, Gudiyatham, Vellore, for his contribution to the field of education.
