Two men drowned at Suvarna river in Hirangana village of Karkala taluk in Udupi district on Tuesday, September 29.
The police identified the deceased as Harshan, 21, and Bharath, 29, both residents of Hirangana village.
The officers said the two deceased and their friends Ranjith, 27, and Ketan, 23, went to swim in the river around 2.30 p.m. Harshan and Bharath got stuck in the water current, while Ranjith and Ketan managed to safely swim back to the shore. Local swimmers and firemen searched for Harshan and Bharath using ropes, life jackets and a drone. Their bodies were found at around 6 p.m.
The bodies have been taken to the government hospital in Karkala for a postmortem. Further legal and procedural formalities were being carried out, the police stated.
