Kanniyakumari district administration has secured first place in the State for two consecutive months August and September, in the disposal of e-Sevai revenue certificate applications, with the administration closely monitoring the processing of applications within the prescribed timeline.
Though there are over 15 categories of certificates offered by the Revenue department through e-Sevai portal, the major certificates for which applications were received from the district include income, community, nativity, legal heir, OBC and PSTM among others.
During August and September, a total of 47,909 applications were received, of which 47,027 certificates were approved and issued. The district administration attributed the high volume applications disposed of within the prescribed timeline to close supervision, systematic reviews and coordination at various levels, from the district to the village level.
According to information provided by Kanniyakumari district administration, in August a total of 24,421 applications were received, of which 24,054 were approved, 289 rejected and 78 returned. Meanwhile, in September, 23,488 applications were received. Of them 22,973 were approved, while 172 got rejected and 102 applications were returned. However, at the end of September, 241 applications were shown as pending, but all were within the prescribed 15-day processing period.
The district administration has put in place several measures to monitor the disposal of applications and ensure that they are processed within the prescribed timeline. These measures being taken by the district administration includes the appointment of deputy collectors as nodal officers in each taluk, nodal officers reviewing 25% of rejected applications in assigned taluk and identifying the rejection. A district level review meeting conducted by District Revenue Officer on every Monday under the supervision of District Collector. Tahsildars also conduct an internal taluk level meeting every Tuesday.
In addition, training is provided to e-Sevai centre operators, while refresher training is conducted for Village Administrative Officers. A daily 7 a.m. report on applications pending beyond 13 days, in which these pending applications were generated and shared with Tahsildars concerned.
Speaking to The Hindu, Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap said that the effective disposal of applications was continuously being monitored. “Since the population is high in the district, during the review meetings, rejected applications were randomly selected and scrutinised. This helped identify and rectify issues and ensure that applications were not rejected without valid reasons,” he added.
