A six-year-old girl was rescued by a passing auto-rickshaw driver after her mother allegedly threw her into Hussainsagar lake, reportedly distressed over her inability to afford treatment for the child’s intestinal infection.
The child, identified as Ruksana, 6, is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital following the incident.
According to preliminary information, the girl’s mother, Shabana, a resident of Hasmathpet in Old Bowenpally, had been struggling financially after being deserted by her husband. She was supporting her two daughters by working as a domestic help.
Her younger daughter, Ruksana, was suffering from an intestinal infection that required medical treatment. Unable to afford the expenses, Ms. Shabana reportedly took the child to Hussainsagar and threw her into the lake.
An autorickshaw driver passing by the area witnessed the incident and immediately jumped into the water to rescue the girl. The driver managed to bring the child to safety, averting a tragedy. Ruksana was subsequently shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment.
Further details surrounding the incident and any police action are awaited.
