K.L. Rahul scored a brilliant half-century to enable India to cross the finishing line during day 5 of the second Test in New Delhi on Tuesday (October 14, 2025).
India won the Test by 7 wickets and it was a perfect and foreseeable whitewash for India. Captain Shubman Gill has won his first Test series after a drawn series in England.
Chasing a target of 121, Rahul and Sai Sudarshan started the proceedings on day 5 but Sai Sudarshan was dismissed by Roston Chase for a well-made 39. The entrance of Captain Shubman Gill heightened expectations for a swift conclusion to the game. After striking a six and a boundary, Gill was dismissed for 13 and India still needed 13 runs. Rahul completed his half-century and was unbeaten on 58. After the dismissal of Gill, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel joined Rahul and took India past the victory mark.
Riding on a brilliant 175 from Jaiswal, unbeaten century from Shubman Gill (129) and solid scores from Sai Sudarshan (87), Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44), India went past the 500-mark in the first innings. India declared 518 for 5.
West Indies, once again, lasted for 81.5 overs and were dismissed for 248 with Kuldeep Yadav (5 for 82) and Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 46) being the main wicket-takers.
Following on, West Indies batted with grit and determination scoring 390 runs. If it was brilliant hundreds from John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103) at the beginning, Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales added 79 crucial runs for the last wicket to give India more than 100 runs to chase.
And it was indeed a nice finish from the Indian side but credit should be given to the West Indies team for their fighting spirit and taking the second Test to the last day. India won the first Test inside three days.
