The Election Commission of India (ECI) has published the draft electoral roll of voters in Tamil Nadu on Friday (December 19, 2025), after carrying out the much-debated Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This assumes significance as the State is just months away from Assembly elections due next year.
Earlier on October 27, the ECI announced the conduct of second phase of the the Special Intensive Revision of electoral in 12 States and Union Territories, including poll-bound Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry, covering nearly 51 crore voters. The first phase was conducted in Bihar.
In Tamil Nadu, the enumeration phase which was initially scheduled for a period of 30 days from November 4 to December 4 was extended twice — by a week till December 11 and again by three days till December 14.
Addressing journalists at Chennai on December 19, Archana Patnaik, the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, said the names of more than 97.37 lakh voters have been deleted on grounds such as death, shifting, absenteeism, duplication and non-submission of SIR enumeration forms.
After these deletions, Tamil Nadu’s draft electoral rolls contain the names of 5,43,76,756 voters including 2,66,63,233 men, 2,77,06,332 women and 7,191 persons of third gender. It is 97,37,831 voters fewer than a total of 6,41,14,587 voters as on October 27, 2025, said Ms. Patnaik.

How to find your name in the voter list?
The draft electoral roll that has been prepared after the SIR process will be available both online and offline, according to the ECI. Eligible voters in Tamil Nadu can check if their names are present in the draft electoral roll through any of the following ways.
From the voter list available with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs)
At the official websites of CEO Tamil Nadu — elections.tn.gov.in (by choosing the option ‘SPECIAL INTENSIVE REVISION – 2026) — and District Election Officers (DEOs) concerned
Through the ECINET mobile application
What to do if your name is not on the list?
If your name is missing from the published draft electoral roll, Form 6 will have to be filled and submitted. Supporting documents for proof of age as well as residence and a recent passport-size photograph will also have to be submitted along with Form 6. The submission can be made either online (via ECI’s website at voters.eci.gov.in or ECINET app) or directly to the respective BLO.
Special camps also will be conducted for this purpose, the dates of which are to be announced later.
For proof of age, a self-attested copy of any of the supporting documents listed below will have to be submitted:
Birth certificate issued by competent local body/municipal authority/Registrar of Births & Deaths
Aadhaar card
PAN card
Driving licence
Passport
Certificates of Class X or Class XII issued by CBSE/ICSE/ State Education Boards, if it contains the date of birth
Any other document for proof of date of birth (if none of the above documents is available)
For proof of residence (either in the name of applicant or any one of parents/spouse who is already enrolled as elector at the same address), a self-attested copy of any of the following supporting documents should be attached:
Aadhaar card
Passport
Water/electricity/gas connection bill for that address (at least 1 year)
Current passbook of nationalised/scheduled bank/post office
Revenue Department’s land owning records including Kisan Bahi
Registered rent lease deed (in case of tenant)
Registered sale deed (in case of own house)
Any other document for proof of residence (if none of the above documents is available)

Form 6A — To register as an overseas voter
Form 7 — For deletion of name from the electoral roll
Form 8 — To update or correct details
All the above forms can be downloaded online at — elections.tn.gov.in/Download_Forms.aspx or voters.eci.gov.in — and the guidelines to fill each type of form are also available in these websites.
How to view the list of deleted voters?
Booth-wise lists of absent/shifted/dead/duplicate voters whose names are not included in the draft roll, along with probable reasons for non-inclusion of their names, can be accessed on the websites of respective District Election Officers (DEOs) or CEO (erolls.tn.gov.in/asd).
The lists will also be displayed on the notice boards of respective panchayat/urban local body offices and at the offices of Block Development Officers (BDOs)/panchayat officers/urban local body officers.
