Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu participated in the “Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra” programme at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam on Saturday (September 19, 2026) and inspected the ongoing efforts to keep the coastline clean and free of plastic waste.
He reviewed the beach cleaning activities and examined the system being used to digitally weigh the waste collected from the sea surface. On this occasion, he handed out incentives to fishermen engaged in collecting plastic waste as part of the coastal cleanliness initiative.
He interacted with sanitation workers, fishermen, and scuba divers, inquiring about the process of removing plastic waste and discarded fishing nets that had accumulated on the seabed. He learned from the divers about the methods being adopted to identify and remove waste from the sea floor.
Officials informed Mr. Naidu that a target of removing 1,200 tonnes of plastic waste from the sea has been set as part of the “Sagara Swachhata” initiative.
Mr. Naidu also virtually inaugurated the pilot site of the Ocean Plastic Recovery Centre at Pedda Jalaripeta. The centre is aimed at supporting the systematic recovery and management of plastic waste collected from the sea.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected a demonstration of the modern sewerage robot introduced by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) for cleaning manholes and sewage drains. Officials explained the functioning and applications of the robotic system to him.
Mr. Naidu also held discussions with representatives from Bloomberg regarding the global recognition received by the GVMC’s sea-cleaning project and its future targets. The discussions focused on the city’s efforts to address marine pollution and improve coastal cleanliness.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister tasted the famous local beach snack, “Muri Mixture,” during his visit to RK Beach. He interacted with a woman vendor selling the popular snack and inquired about her livelihood and family circumstances. After learning that she was a single woman, Mr. Naidu directed officials to sanction a pension for her.
