MA&UD Minister visits C&D plant at Kapuluppada Dumping Yard in Visakhapatnam

Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) P. Narayana, along with Swachh Andhra Corporation Managing Director Sunil Kumar Reddy and GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, inspected the Biogas Plant and the Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Processing Plant at the Kapuluppada Dumping Yard on Saturday (September 19, 2026).

He enquired with the officials about the capacity of the plants, waste collection, processing methods, production, and other operational aspects.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister directed officials to further strengthen the system for segregation of wet waste at source and its transportation to the Biogas Plant. He directed that necessary measures be taken to ensure a continuous supply of wet waste from hotels, markets, function halls, commercial establishments, and other bulk waste generators to the plant. He said that effective production of biogas, electricity and organic manure from waste would contribute to environmental protection and improve overall waste management.

The Minister also directed officials to take stringent measures to prevent the dumping of construction and demolition waste along roadsides, in drains and at vacant sites. He instructed that a comprehensive mechanism be put in place to transport such waste to the C&D Waste Processing Plant for scientific processing. He advised GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg to ensure coordination among the departments concerned, resolve operational issues and enable the plants to function at their designated capacity.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, S. Suresh Kumar directed Chief Engineer P.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju to utilise paper blocks, building blocks, bricks, and other products manufactured from processed C&D waste in GVMC engineering and development works. He stated that such reuse of construction waste would also help reduce the consumption of natural resources.
