The community hall at C.P. Ramaswamy could be mistaken for something else by anyone out of touch with Mylapore for one year. During this period, the old community hall, noticeably antediluvian, was razed to the ground, and in its place, a new facility raised. Despite restrained ornamentation, the building is sufficiently swanky and way different from its slightly anachronistic predecessor. It belongs to a new and rapidly growing category of community halls across Greater Chennai Corporation limits that come with a premium air, combining aesthetics with functionality.
The final touch is being added to the newly constructed community hall, expected to be inaugurated in the second week of July.
The facility is being built at ₹7 crore, the break-up being ₹5.5 cr coming in as MP fund and the rest as Corporation capital fund, according to a Greater Chennai Corporation source.
The area within the compound wall measures 1013 sq.m. The ground floor consists of a kitchen and parking lot, accounting for 639 sq.m. The first floor accounts for 639 sq.m, consisting of a dining hall, a wash area and a storeroom; on the second floor, also spread across 639 sq.m, is found a marriage hall with two rooms.
On 430 sq.m of the third floor, four rooms have been constructed.
The facility is fully air-conditioned with a centralised system.
The work is expected to be completed on or before July 15. According to the GCC source, the pricing for the use of this space is yet to be decided upon.
