A deputy executive engineer working in Osmania University was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday after he was trapped while accepting a bribe of ₹6,000.
The accused was identified as Rakonda Srinivasulu, Deputy Executive Engineer in the Osmania University Building Division, on the university campus, in Tarnaka.
According to the ACB, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹11,000 from the complainant for releasing pending bills amounting to ₹7.37 lakh related to renovation works carried out in Maneru Boys’ Hostel on the university campus. The bribe was also sought to ensure that no obstacles were created in future contract works of Osmania University. Officials said the accused had earlier accepted an initial bribe amount of ₹5,000 through a digital payment application.
During the trap, the accused allegedly accepted part payment of ₹6,000, which was recovered at his instance.
The accused was arrested and produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally. The case is under investigation, and the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
The ACB reiterated that people can report bribe demands by public servants through the toll-free number 1064 or via its official social media platforms, assuring confidentiality to complainants.
