Jagan demands CBI probe into Joji Nagar demolition

Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) demanded a CBI inquiry into “the role of people in high positions involved in the demolition of houses at Joji Nagar in Vijayawada” and assured the ‘victims’ of legal help.

Speaking to the media here, Mr. Reddy expressed solidarity with the victims of Joji Nagar stating that their houses were demolished despite court order giving them relief up to December 31. He said all those involved in the demolition would be brought to book.

The YSRCP chief alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, local MP Kesineni Sivanadh and local Jana Sena corporator were behind the demolition and said that 42 families residing in the colony spread across 2.17 acres of land valued at ₹150 crore were deprived of their homes despite the fact that they had all the permissions and were paying EMIs.

He said that overlooking the fact that the case was pending in the Supreme Court and the residents had relief up to December 31, the demolition was executed in the presence of heavy police presence. Mr. Reddy alleged that fake documents were created during Mr. Naidu’s previous tenure and a bogus society was registered with a back date in 2016 and the litigation was created only to hand over the prime land to private players.

Mr. Reddy said only a CBI inquiry would bring out the facts and the behind-the-scenes operations. He further said that his party would extend all possible legal help to the locals, who were residing there for the past 25 years. He said that the YSRCP would sort out these issues and initiate stringent action against those responsible for the demolition when the party comes to power in the State.

He said encroachment of land through prolonged litigation had become a deliberate pattern under TDP rule in the State with the party leaders and cadre systematically occupying lands by misusing legal processes, creating disputes to delay justice and ultimately grabbing public and private property. “Such actions reflect a complete disregard for the rule of law and people’s rights,” he said.
