K. Satheesh (55), a resident of Kowdiar and Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Chembuchira, Thrissur, passed away on Friday in the capital, giving a new lease of life to five others.
Satheesh had been seriously injured when the two wheeler he was riding was hit by a car near AG’s office on December 8. While undergoing treatment in a private hospital here, his brain death was confirmed on Friday, following which his family expressed the wish to donate his organs.
According to his wife, Mamatha, an official at the Government Secretariat, Satheesh had often expressed his wish to be an organ donor.
With the family taking the lead in donating his organs, the process was enabled and coordinated by K-SOTTO. One of the kidneys went to an end-stage renal patient at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, while the second kidney and liver was transplanted in two patients suffering from end-stage organ failure at the private hospital where the brain death had been confirmed.
The cornea was retrieved by the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology for transplantation on two patients there
