Miscreant(s) defaced the statue of B.R. Ambedkar with a slipper garland at Veerankuppam village in Kallavi, Uthangarai. The defacement came to light on Wednesday morning (April 1, 2026), when the statue that was inside a cage, similar to most statues in the State, was found garlanded with a slipper string. The cage housing Ambedkar was not secured with a lock.
The incident led to tensions in the area, following which police were deployed.
