Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD-APSRTC) Employees’ Union have urged the authorities to restore cashless medical treatment under the old referral-hospital system for employees.
Union State president P. Damodara Rao said the medical problems being faced by APSRTC employees were brought to the notice of officials of the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) at a meeting of the EHS Joint Committee members held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Chief Executive Officer.
The officials were told that the EHS system currently in force was not providing the expected benefits to APSRTC employees and that employees and their family members were facing difficulties in obtaining cashless treatment at hospitals.
The union leaders urged APSRTC officials to issue clear instructions to empanelled hospitals to ensure that employees did not face problems such as rejection of EHS cards or denial of cashless treatment when they approached hospitals for emergency treatment.
They said the referral-hospital system that was in force before the merger of the APSRTC with the government had been useful to employees and sought its restoration.
They also requested that medical reimbursement bills pending under the EHS for a long time be settled immediately and that special measures be taken to prevent delays in EHS approvals for retired employees.
