Around 16 Maoists from Chhattisgarh were reportedly detained by police in Pedaldoba village of Sirpur (U) mandal, once hotbed of naxal activity, in Telangana’s Kumram Bheem Asifabad district in the early hours of Tuesday.
The exact identity of the underground cadres of the banned outfit was not immediately known.
Acting on specific inputs, a special party police team led by Asifabad ASP S. Chitharanjan raided a thatched house at Pedaldoba, a remote village in the tribal mandal near the inter-State border with Maharashtra in the wee hours of the day.
The police detained around 16 Maoists and shifted them to the district headquarters, sources said.
The police are trying to establish the identity of the detained Maoists and the reason for their arrival in the interior tribal village along Telangana’s border with Maharashtra.
The movement of underground Maoist cadres in the remote tribal hamlet comes at a time when there is a spurt in surrender of Maoists operating in the Dandakaranya forest region spanning parts of Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
