The attempt to include bogus voters in the voters’ list of Manjolai and other areas of the erstwhile tea gardens in the Western Ghats beyond Manimuthar dam has been thwarted.
After releasing the post-SIR draft electoral roll here on Friday, District Collector R. Sukumar said 1,906 voters were in the Manjolai, Nalumukku, Oothu, Kakachi and Kuthiraivetti areas, all in the Western Ghats, when the tea estate was functioning.
After the operations of the tea estate was closed down, most of the workers had left the tea estate to settle down in the plains like Maanur, Tirunelveli, Reddiyarpatti, Ambasamudram, Kallidaikurichi and Manimuthar.
Even though 1,182 enumeration forms were submitted in Manjolai, Nalumukku, Oothu, Kakachi and Kuthiraivetti areas during SIR for including them as voters in the polling booths in Manjolai and other areas, only 49 were found to be living in Manjolai and Nalumukku and hence remaining 1,857 names had been deleted from the electoral roll.
Those who moved to the plains from the Western Ghats can cast their votes in the place where they live now as they have submitted their enumeration forms during the SIR. Those who have been omitted in the draft electoral roll can submit Form 6 for including their names in the electoral roll, Dr. Sukumar said.
“We are clear that everyone’s democratic rights should be guaranteed. Hence, I visited Manjolai and other areas for field verification to identify genuine voters. Based on the field verification, the draft electoral roll has been prepared with the genuine voters now living there,” said Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi, Ayush Gupta.
When over 1,800 enumeration forms were submitted for including the voters during SIR, the AIADMK submitted a complaint with Dr. Sukumar and Mr. Ayush Gupta seeking probe into the attempt to including bogus voters in the electoral roll. Now, this attempt has been thwarted.
