The Bihar government on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) granted approval to carry out shooting of over 37 films, web series and documentary projects under ‘Bihar Film Promotion Policy, 2024’. The policy has been formulated with the aim to promote film and create a friendly environment for shooting movies in Bihar.

“Of the 37 projects, shooting for many projects are currently under way in Patna and other locations of different districts of the State,” Art and Culture Department Secretary Pranav Kumar told reporters in Patna.

‘Open to any language’

“We have been working for the overall development of film shooting in the State. You know that films like Johny Mera Naam had been shot in Rajgir but with the passage of time, the situation changed. We want to promote the shooting of films in the State either in local language or in Hindi or in any other language,” he further said.

Mr. Kumar admitted that in Bihar there was a need to create an ecosystem for film shooting as mere words will not serve the purpose. He added that the government will have to provide good hotels, roads, security, locations and other facilities to producers and directors.

“In order to streamline all these things, we are going to launch our website next week. The site will provide information with regard to the facilities being offered for shooting in Bihar,” the officer said.

Sharing details, he said that 3D image and VR image of different locations will be uploaded on the website so that those interested to shoot their movies in Bihar will get an idea about locations before the producer makes a physical verification of the spot.

The department has sought a list of locations from District Magistrates, Art and Culture department officials, different districts which are either important from historic or religious point of view or shooting point of view. The places and locations having maximum potential for shooting will be identified and their 3D view and VR view will be posted on the website.

In response to the possible development of a film city, Mr. Kumar said: “The department wants to know what are the demands of producers and directors. What kind of facilities they want [in a film city]. We do not want to offer things that may not be of much use for them (producers/directors).”

With a view to preserving and protecting the endangered arts, the department has initiated the Mukhya Mantri Guru-Shishya Parampara Yojana to help in passing on these skills to the next generation . Under the scheme, experts of endangered arts will be treated as guru and those interested in learning these arts will be known as ‘shishya’ (disciples), Mr. Kumar said, adding that one guru will train eight shishyas (disciples).

Selected shishyas will be trained in the State’s traditional folk arts, music, dance, musical instruments such as Jat Jatni and Manjusha art in order to revive these art forms, he said and added that the department has received a total of 233 applications under the scheme.

Under the Mukhya Mantri Kalakar Pension Yojana, the State government took a decision to honour senior artists who gave their life to different forms of arts by giving them a monthly pension of ₹3,000 so that they can lead a respectful life.

A total of 85 artists from different districts of Patna, Saran, Khagaria, Katihar, Purnea, Banka, Bhojpur, Araria, Jehanabad and Kishanganj have been selected under the scheme.

He also said that the department has created a total of 244 different posts to be filled for Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation Ltd., Museums and strengthening and reorganisation of department and cadre.
