BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran and Hindu Munnani leader Kadeswara Subramanian on Friday meeting the family of Poornachandran, who had ended his life in Madurai over the Thirupparankundram row.

BJP and Hindu Munnani leaders on Friday offered their condolences to the family members of Poornachandran, who ended his life reportedly due to dejection over the Thirupparankundram Deepathoon row on Thursday.
BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran and Hindu Munnnai leader Kadeswara Subramanian visited the bereaved family members at the Government Rajaji Hospital. After consoling them, the leaders handed over a solatium of ₹10 lakh to Indumathi, the wife of the deceased. The BJP cadre gagged their mouth with black ribbons as a mark of silent mourning at the mortuary.
Meanwhile, Ms. Indumathi gave a petition to the revenue officials here demanding ₹1 crore as compensation from the State government and also a government job for herself. Mr. Nagenthran reiterated her demands, claiming that the DMK was responsible for the death of a father of two children.
Scores of policemen were posted inside and outside the GRH as a section of the crowd demanded that the body be carried through the Goripalayam junction. However, the police denied them permission and allowed the funeral procession through Vaigai River North Bank Road.
Poornachandran’s relatives expressed shock over his extreme decision. “He was an MBA-holder and worked as a medical representative. We only knew that he was a very devout Hindu and not affiliated with any political party or organisation,” one of them said.
Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, BJP national co-in charge for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, expressed anguish over Poornachandran’s death. In a statement, he said Poornachandran sacrificed his life while seeking the implementation of a court-approved religious activity.
‘DMK will pay price’
Speaking at the Coimbatore airport on Friday, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan said the DMK will have to answer the people and will pay a heavy price in 2026 for the death of Poornachandran. She alleged that Poornachandran took his own life in a bid to pressure the DMK to allow the lighting of the Deepathoon at Thirupparankundram. Ms. Tamilisai said the DMK government had the audacity to blame the judge. While the issue is being described as a communal row, it is actually only an ego issue, she added.
