Congress condemns Chief Minister Rangasamy’s decision to skip NITI Aayog meeting 

The Opposition Congress has criticised Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy for skipping the NITI Aayog meeting held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday.

Addressing reporters in Puducherry on Sunday, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy wanted to know whether the BJP, which is a coalition partner with the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) in Puducherry would end the alliance to show their protest against Mr. Rangasamy for not attending the NITI Aayog meeting.

The Chief Minister had repeatedly been claiming that his party and the Puducherry Government were insisting the Centre to grant the Union Territory (U.T.) Statehood. But he has neither visited Delhi or met the Prime Minister except on one occasion, to insist for Statehood.

Although the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had categorically stated that statehood would never be granted for Puducherry, Mr. Rangasamy has been misleading the people by making claims that he was insisting for Statehood, Mr. Narayanasamy said. The Congress leader alleged that the Chief Minister was only hoodwinking the people by staging a drama on Statehood. The BJP should bid farewell to its alliance with the AINRC, he added.

He also took strong exception to the Chief Minister’s appeal to the educated youth of the U.T. to promote dairy farming and rear milch animals. Although the youth were aspiring for good jobs, Mr. Ranagsamy’s plea to become dairy farmers has shattered their hopes and aspirations, he said.

The Chief Minister’s criticism that employees of Puducherry Cooperative Milk Producers Union were not being sincere in work only exposed his administrative inefficiency, he said.
