Congress holds protest against BJP on National Herald case

Tension prevailed briefly on Thursday, when police prevented Congress leaders from proceeding to the State BJP office, as they were protesting against the Central government, accusing it of indulging in political vendetta by filing false and illegal cases against senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case.

TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC in-charge of TG Meenakshi Natarajan, and several Congress leaders staged a sit-in at the Gandhi Bhavan gate, when the police refused to allow them onto the road.

Mr. Goud said that the National Herald is a newspaper that has existed since before Independence and recalled that the Gandhi family had sacrificed its property and wealth for the nation. He alleged that despite this legacy, BJP was deliberately harassing the Gandhi family through motivated cases.

He pointed out that a Delhi court had already quashed the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate and said the Congress would take the issue to the people through peaceful protests and rallies.

Ms. Natarajan said that truth always prevails and asserted that the case had once again exposed what she termed as BJP’s vindictive politics. She accused the ruling party of attempting to erase Gandhiji’s name from public life.
