The Coimbatore Corporation has recorded the highest decline in dengue cases in the State, with the number of cases falling from 124 in an earlier three-week period to 90 in the latest three-week period, a Corporation official said. This represents a reduction of 34 cases, or about 27%, between the two periods.
The average weekly attack rate has also dropped from 2.07 to 1.50 per lakh population, a decline of about 28%. The official said the figures indicated a clear reduction in dengue incidence in the Corporation limits.
The decline has been recorded amid continued vector-control and surveillance measures across the city’s five zones and 100 wards. The Corporation has deployed 1,209 dengue-control workers for door-to-door mosquito-breeding source reduction.
Officials said 60.65 lakh potential mosquito-breeding containers had been removed. Under ‘Operation Shield’, fever-affected areas are being covered with intensified vector-control measures, including fogging, medical camps and awareness activities.
A 24-hour fever control centre is also monitoring cases, while fogging, source reduction and awareness activities are being continued across the city. The Corporation is conducting weekly reviews of the dengue prevention measures, officials said.
