“Why the DMK is overreacting to the Gem Granite Veeramani case is known to everyone,” said Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar.
Speaking to the press on Saturday following a review meeting held ahead of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s visit to Madurai, Mr. Nirmalkumar stated that while the DMK attempted to reduce the case to a few minor pieces of evidence, the public was well aware of what was hidden under the rug in return for favours.
“The case is growing larger every day as the investigation slowly unfurls,” he noted.
Recalling that the complaint was initially filed in 2024, he raised several unanswered questions: “Why was a case not registered in 2024, why was it booked in 2025, and then why was it closed?”
He argued that these questions, which only former Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin could answer, cast deep suspicion on a DMK government that cleverly tried to bury the case.
Mr. Nirmalkumar claimed that Mr. Stalin must have been aware of the complaint, noting that the accused, Veeramani, was not just an ordinary citizen but a prominent business figure acquainted with numerous politicians.
He added that the full extent of the previous government’s involvement remained to be uncovered, especially as reports emerge of various political figures allegedly receiving money to hush up the matter.
“We are not afraid of the DMK’s false claims and accusations, as the people delivered their mandate in the recent State elections itself,” he remarked.
Predicting the outcome of the upcoming polls, he added that voters would deliver a crushing defeat to the DMK in the next by-election.
“As said already, the DMK is destined to face the same fate as the AIADMK in a few years. Lacking proper leadership, the DMK is bound to fracture and end up clueless about its functioning,” he said.
About Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s visit to Madurai, Mr. Nirmalkumar stated that aside from two primary events—the launch of the Thaimaaman Gold Ring scheme and the inauguration of the renovated Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum—the remainder of the official itinerary would be released directly by the Chief Minister’s Office.
