Three days after a woman and her two children died near Charlapalli railway station, railway police said they have found no clear motive behind the step despite questioning at least eight people connected to the family.
An official close to the investigation said that statements were recorded from family members including the woman’s mother and brother, colleagues and the woman’s husband, who works in Dubai, over the past three days. “However, none of them expressed suspicion against anyone or pointed to any apparent distress. Those questioned stated that no signs of worry were noticed in the woman even a day before the incident,” said the official.
The incident came to light in the early hours of January 31, when bodies of 38-year-old Penaty Vijaya, a software employee, and her children, 18-year-old Chetana Reddy and 17-year-old Vishal Reddy, both students, were found on the outskirts of Charlapalli railway station.
Police said Vijaya’s husband, Surender Reddy, aged around 54, was contacted over the phone as part of the preliminary inquiry and later arrived in Hyderabad from Dubai on Saturday evening to attend the final rites. He was subsequently questioned by the police as part of the ongoing probe.
During the investigation, police recovered a small handwritten note from Vijaya’s car in which she stated that no one was responsible for their deaths, without mentioning any specific reason for taking the extreme step. Preliminary findings suggest that she drove to the railway station, parked her car on the premises and walked with her children towards the outskirts before jumping in front of a moving train. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
