A 34-year-old army jawan allegedly attacked a police sub-inspector (SI) and a head constable in the district.
On Sunday night (February 1, 2026), a dance programme was conducted as part of a local temple festival at Adilam near Karimangalam in Dharmapuri. After the programme, a person who was on his two-wheeler was found to be shouting on the road. On seeing this, Karimangalam SI A. Mathialagan and head constable Ramesh Kumar asked the person to move from the road, which created a verbal duel between them. The person suddenly attacked the SI and head constable. The local villagers on support of the army personnel quarrelled with the police officials and took him with them.
On Monday (February 2, 2026), the police on suspicion inquired six persons and identified the accused as S. Gokul, a resident of the same locality and an army jawan who had come to his native on leave. The police registered a case and arrested S. Bharathi (27), three youths aged 17, K. Manjunath (19) and V. Ramanan (25). The police are on lookout for Gokul and eight others.
