Bharathidasan Government College for Women (BGCW) Legal Services Centre and Hope Institute jointly organised an awareness programme on women safety coinciding with National Girl Child Day.
Inaugurating the event, R. Mathivanan, college principal, emphasised the need for educational security and legal awareness for girls.
In a special address on “Women’s Safety Cyber Crimes”, Shruti S. Yaragatti, Puducherry Cyber Crime Wing Superintendent of Police, sought to raise awareness among students about online scams, social media safety and preventive measures.
Rajagopalan, advocate from the Union Territory of Puducherry Legal Services Authority (UTPLSA) explained the legal rights and legal aid systems provided to women while addressing the topic ‘Women’s Safety – Legal Perspectives’.
Earlier, Shanthi P., Head of the Legal Services Centre and Assistant Professor of the Department of English and P. Joseph Victor Raj, Director of Hope Foundation, gave their introductory remarks.
Janet Cynthia Jo, Content Creator at Hope, Niranjana Sreekumar, Ishita Singh, and Rithika R, social work students of Vellore Technological University and programme coordinators also participated.
D. Berlin, S. Brindha, R. Brindha, K. Deepa and E. Dhanalakshmi spoke about the Winter Internship experience at Hope Institute and highlighted the opportunities for students.
Later, certificates were presented to participants.
