Fifteen killed in Bihar road accidents, two children among dead

Fifteen people, including two children, died in four separate road accidents across Bihar on Sunday (February 1, 2026).

In Bihta in Patna district, an autorickshaw collided with a truck, killing five people on the spot, including two children, while one more succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital.

Similarly, in Buxar district, a speeding truck hit a car on the Patna-Buxar four-lane highway, in which three people died on the spot and a fourth died during treatment at a government hospital. All four were from the same family, including a Sashastra Seema Bal jawan. In another incident on the Mokama-Sarmera highway in Patna district, a speeding truck hit a jeep, killing three people and injuring four others.

In Gopalganj district, a father and daughter died in a road accident when a speeding car hit their motorcycle under the Kuchaikote police station limits.

All the deceased in the Bihta incident hailed from Ara in Bhojpur district and were returning after attending the Urs festival at Maner Dargah. The collision between the truck and the autorickshaw took place at around 2 a.m. near Lakhantola bridge. The impact was so severe that bodies were found about 50 metres away from the autorickshaw. Police reached the spot soon after and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Bihta Station House Officer Amit Kumar said the truck was coming from the wrong side and hit the autorickshaw. He added that the truck driver had been arrested and the vehicle seized.

The Buxar incident took place on Sunday morning at around 5 a.m. at Chanda village. The impact was so severe that the car was crushed, with one body trapped inside, and blood splattered across the accident site. SSB jawan Omkar Pandey’s sister’s marriage was scheduled to take place this week. The family were residents of Bharkhara village under the Brahmpur police station.

According to the police, the three people who died on the Mokama-Sarmera highway were residents of Sheikhpura district and were travelling to Mokama to take a ritual bath in the Ganga on the occasion of Maghi Purnima early on Sunday morning. The injured are undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed deep grief over the road accidents, terming them extremely heartbreaking and soul-wrenching.

“I express my deepest condolences to all those who lost their lives in the tragic road accidents and pray for the swift recovery of the injured. I pray to God for the departed souls and bestows strength upon the grieving families to endure this unbearable sorrow,” Mr. Choudhary said in a press statement.
