The district administration has notified the formation of 12 new village panchayats in three hill-area taluks of the district, following their publication in the Erode District Gazette.
As per G.O. (Ms.) No. 343 issued by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (PR-2(1)) Department on December 5, 2025, three village panchayats in Anthiyur, Sathyamangalam and Thalavadi taluks were bifurcated and reorganised into 12 separate village panchayats. The government order was published in the Erode District Gazette (Special Issue No. 49) on December 13, 2025.
Subsequently, objections and representations were invited from the public between December 13, 2025 and January 3, 2026. Grievance redressal meetings were conducted on January 3 and January 7 in the respective taluks, during which additional objections were received. After examining the petitions and objections, the District Collector recommended certain revisions, particularly regarding the transfer of hamlets to the respective Village Panchayats.
Based on the Collector’s recommendations and with the approval of the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, Secretariat, Chennai, the final notification was published in the Erode District Gazette (Special Issue No. 5) dated February 4, 2026.
Newly formed panchayats under the Anthiyur Panchayat Union were Bargur, Kuttaiyur, Thamaraikarai, Devarmalai, Kovilnatham, under the Thalavadi Panchayat Union were Thalavadi and Doddagajanur and under the Sathyamangalam Panchayat Union were Kadambur, Pavalakuttai, Iruttipalayam, Karalayam, and Arigiyam.
