Addressing the gathering, she recalled that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced in 2021, during a government function held at Seelanaickenpatti, that a multi-purpose sports complex would be established in Salem district at a cost of ₹20 crore for public use.
As per the announcement, 18.06 acres of land have been allotted near the Government Engineering College at Karuppur. On behalf of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the Deputy Chief Minister had earlier laid the foundation stone for the project through video conferencing on August 2, 2025, during a government function held in Erode, and construction works are currently in progress.
The newly announced synthetic track will form part of the multi-purpose sports complex, which is proposed to include a 400-metre athletic track, handball court, skating rink, tennis court, kho-kho court, gymnastics arena, basketball court, hockey field, gymnasium, swimming pool, administrative office, sports hostel and an indoor sports complex.
District Sports Officer S. Sivarajan, Block Development Officers Umasankar and Dhanapal, along with sportspersons, students and other officials concerned, were present.
