A history-sheeter, A. Rajkumar, 36, broke a tooth of his brother-in-law, S. Arunachalam, 35, with a hammer in a domestic quarrel, near Peraiyur.
The police said that Rajkumar, who had married, Vijayarani, sister of Arunachalam of Anaikaraipatti, had reportedly tortured her demanding dowry.
After she lodged a police complaint against him, she lived with her brother.
Angered over this, Rajkumar, against him few criminal cases, including an attempt to murder cases are pending, attacked Arunachalam with a hammer in which he suffered bleeding injuries on his jaw, lower lip and left ear.
He has been admitted to the Government Medical College hospital in Virudhunagar. Periayur police are investigating.
