The northern parts of Andhra Pradesh received light to moderate showers, while isolated stations in other parts of the State too recorded rain on Saturday, as a low-pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea.
Between 8.30 a.m. and 7 p.m., Srinivas Colony area in Salur mandal of Parvathipuram Manyam district received the day’s highest of 63 mm rainfall, followed by Narsipatnam, Nathavaram, Chodavaram, Kasimkota and Ravikamatham mandals that recorded rain in the range of 39 mm to 59 mm.
Gotlagattu of Markapuram district, Isakapalli of SPSR Nellore district, Unguturu of Eluru district, Velanka of Kakinada district and Nemalikallu of Palnadu district also recorded moderate rain, between 55 mm and 32 mm.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, the low-pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal on September 21 and into a deep depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal on September 22. It is likely to reach westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, near south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts, around September 23.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain in coastal A.P. on September 20 and 21, isolated very heavy rain for the same region on September 22 and 23. Thunderstorms and strong winds with speed reaching 40-60 kmph are likely at isolated places across the State until September 23.
The A.P. State Disaster Management Authority has sounded caution to the public and advised those living in low-lying areas to take precautionary measures. As the sea is likely to become very rough, fishermen who ventured into the sea have been urged to return to the coast immediately.
