At least 12 people were killed in separate clashes that occurred over a fortnight across parts of Delhi, with investigations revealing the involvement of juveniles in many cases, the police said on Tuesday.
Stabbings, shooting
The incidents were reported from North, North West, Rohini, East, South and South East districts and included stabbings and a case of shooting.
Cases involving juveniles included an incident from north-west Delhi’s Karala, where a 16-year-old Class 11 student was allegedly stabbed to death by three juveniles aged 15, who were subsequently detained. In east Delhi’s Shakarpur, an 18-year-old autorickshaw driver was stabbed to death following a dispute. Two juveniles were apprehended in the case. In south Delhi’s Neb Sarai, a 15-year-old was among those accused in the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old law student.
Teenagers comprised not just the perpetrators but also victims in many cases. Among those killed in the clashes are two teenagers aged 16 and 18, a first-year law student, and a 19-year-old youth, as per police records.
A senior officer said many of the killings were “impulsive acts” triggered by anger. He added, “Several other cases stemmed from snatching attempts that turned fatal, disputes over personal relationships, financial disagreements, neighbourhood quarrels and arguments over issues as insignificant as cleanliness of surroundings.”
