Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy questioned the growth in the land holdings of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, citing his 2004 Lok Sabha election affidavit.
In a post on social media platforms, Mr. Ponguleti said Mr. Rao had declared in his affidavit for the 2004 Karimnagar Lok Sabha election that he owned no agricultural or non-agricultural land. The archived affidavit available on the Association for Democratic Reforms’ MyNeta platform also records “Nil” against both categories of land for Mr. Rao. It lists a building in Banjara Hills valued at ₹70 lakh as his immovable asset, the post claimed.
Similarly, he said BRS working president KT Rama Rao had declared ownership of only one acre of land in his 2009 affidavit and questioned how his land holdings had subsequently expanded to hundreds of acres allegedly worth thousands of crores.
Mr. Ponguleti questioned how Mr. Rao and his family subsequently acquired substantial land holdings and assets, and sought an explanation from the BRS leadership. He alleged that the increase in the family’s assets during the Telangana movement and the subsequent 10 years of BRS rule required public scrutiny.
The Minister also questioned BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao’s recent assertion that Mr. Rao’s family had owned hundreds of acres since 1954. He asked whether the statement was consistent with the former Chief Minister’s disclosures in his election affidavits?
