The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) appears to be holding to its traditional fort of Ernakulam district as counting of votes for the local body elections progresses on Saturday (December 13, 2025). As of 10.15 a.m., two hours into counting, the UDF was leading in Ernakulam district panchayat and Kochi Corporation, along with 11 municipalities, 11 block panchayats and 40 grama panchayats in the district.

In the district panchayat, UDF was leading in 20 divisions while the LDF was ahead only in three. Kitex-backed twenty20 was leading in two divisions — Puthencruz and Kolenchery.
In Kochi Corporation, UDF was leading in 45 wards despite lagging behind in the initial rounds. The ruling LDF was ahead only in 23 seats while BJP-led NDA and independents in five wards each. Notably, UDF’s opposition leader in the Corporation, Antony Kureethara conceded defeat in Island North ward which BJP has retained.
The United Democratic Front was leading in 12 municipalities in Ernakulam out of the 13 in Ernakulam district at 10 a.m. It included Aluva, Angamaly, Eloor, Kalamassery, Koothattukulam, Kothamangalam, Maradu, Muvattupuzha, North Paravur, Perumbavoor, Piravom and Thrikkakara. The National Democratic Alliance was leading in Thripunitura municipality.
In block panchayats, UDF was maintaining a clear upperhand with lead in 11 of 14 bodies while LDF was ahead only in three. Kitex-backed Twenty20 maintains lead in its stronghold Kizhakkambalam grama panchayat and Aikkaranad panchayat which it won last time. While UDF leads in Kunnathunad LDF is ahead in Mazhuvannoor panchayat. Twenty20 had won the two panchayats last time.
