Kodandarama temple annual Brahmotsavams begin with ‘Dhwajarohanam’

The annual Brahmotsavams at the TTD’s Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple commenced on a traditional note with the ‘Dhwajarohanam’ ceremony on Tuesday (March 17, 2026).

Priests led by the officiating priest (Kankanabhattar) Bharat Kumar Dikshitulu conducted the ritual in accordance with the Vaikhanasa Agama school of temple worship and hoisted the sacred flag atop the temple flag post between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., signalling the launch of the nine-day festival.

Amid Vedic chants by pundits and the chanting of ‘Rama Nama’ by the devotees, the flag went up the flag post, which is considered an invitation to the celestial beings to descend on the earth to witness the grand gala festival.

Earlier, ‘Tiru Veedhi Utsavam’ was performed wherein the idols of Sri Kodandarama, Sita and Lakshmana, along with the Chakrathalwar idol and the sacred flag bearing the imprint of ‘Garuda’, were carried in a procession around the temple. Later, a celestial bath ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ was performed with milk, curd, honey, coconut water, turmeric and sandalwood paste.

‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’ was conducted in the evening, when the idol of Sri Kodandarama was taken on a celestial carrier representing a seven-hooded serpent around the temple.
