Collector S. Kandasamy distributed loan assistance worth ₹16 crore to 20 new entrepreneurs at an awareness and credit facilitation camp organised under the Tamil Nadu Women Entrepreneurs Development Scheme (TWEES) and the Kalaignar Handicrafts Scheme at the Collectorate here on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector said the scheme was introduced to promote entrepreneurship among women and transgender persons. Under the scheme, beneficiaries can start business, service, or manufacturing enterprises with a project cost of up to ₹10 lakh and avail a subsidy of 25%, subject to a maximum of ₹2 lakh.
As part of the initiative, over 200 women entrepreneurs from across the district participated in the camp. They were provided guidance on starting new enterprises and assisted in submitting applications through the online portal. Participants showed keen interest in textile-related businesses, food production units, manufacturing, service, and trading enterprises.
The Collector said that more than 500 applications had been submitted online in the last 10 days under the scheme. He instructed bank managers and officials to ensure timely credit support to micro, small, and medium enterprises through government schemes without delay.
Later, the Collector distributed loan sanction orders for ventures including coir manufacturing, dairy farming, bakery units, food processing, four-wheeler service centres, heavy vehicle services, dairy product manufacturing, tailoring, and painting works.
The event was attended by District Industries Centre General Manager Thirumurugan, officials from the Reserve Bank of India and NABARD, District Lead Bank Manager Vivekanandan, regional-level bank officials, and other dignitaries.
