The Fifth Additional District Court in Coimbatore has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murder at Meenakshipuram near Pollachi in the district in 2016. The punishment, along with a fine of ₹1,100, was awarded to Sudhanandham (54) alias Papan of Meenakshipuram.
As per the prosecution case, Sudhanandham, who was under the influence of alcohol, picked a quarrel with Karthik (23) near Meenakshipuram railway gate on September 14, 2016. He assaulted and pushed Karthik, who suffered a grievous injury after his head hit against a stone on the ground. Though Karthik was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment, he succumbed to injuries.
Upon completion of the trial, Fifth Additional District Judge P.K. Sivakuamar found Sudhanandham guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment on Thursday (September 24).
