A 37-year old man was arrested by Eraniel police on Tuesday near Thingalnagar for allegedly murdering his mother after she refused to give him money to buy liquor.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Thangaleela, 60. Thangaleela had been living with her daughter at her residence in Nadutheri near Thingalnagar. On Sunday evening, her daughter went to a shop to purchase some things, leaving her mother alone at home. When she returned, she found Thangaleela lying dead on a cot.
Upon receiving the information Eraniel police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for a postmortem examination. Eraniel police registered a case and examined the surveillance footage from the vicinity. The footage showed Thangaleela’s son Shebin, 37 visiting the house.
The police detained Shebin and questioned him. During interrogation, he allegedly told the police that he had quarrelled with his mother after asking for money to buy liquor. When she refused, he allegedly suffocated by her pressing pillow against her.
Subsequently Eraniel police arrested Shebin. Further investigations are on.
