The newly-formed Markapuram district has been struggling to provide basic infrastructure for the district headquarters. Though, the district came into existence nearly a month back, it has been lagging behind due to lack of office buildings for various departments at the headquarters.
Meanwhile, the district administration is planning to convert a school building into Collector office at Goguladinne village in Markapuram mandal. The school building, which has been unoccupied, will now be converted into office building for the District Collector, Joint Collector and District Revenue Officer. The entire Collectorate will at present function temporarily from the building. The district administration is also taking steps to provide a building for the Superintendent of Police.
Markapuram Joint Collector Puli Srinivasulu said that they have identified 25 acres of vacant land to build all the government complexes required for the district headquarters, and added that the construction works of the buildings would start shortly.
Mr. Srinivasulu also said that the district administration had been delivering governance without any interruption in citizen services since the formation of the district. The government has currently appointed Prakasam District Collector and SP as in-charge for the newly-created district.
